Skin & acne

Why is my skin bad in my twenties?

  • Short answer
  • Reading level 20-22
  • Skin changes across your twenties and thirties. Oil production and hormonal patterns shift, skin cell turnover slows, and breakouts that started in your teens can change shape or location. Adult-onset acne is worth having looked at rather than treated with whatever the internet suggests.

What this does and does not tell you

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Only a clinician can examine you, take your history and run tests. The same symptom has different causes in different people.

If something is sudden, severe, or getting worse quickly, get medical advice rather than reading on.
