Will the doctor tell my parents?

  • Short answer
  • Reading level 13-15
  • In most places, medical information is confidential regardless of age, and results are not shared with parents, schools or employers. There are recognised exceptions where disclosure is required, such as serious risk to another person or a child at risk. Ask at the start of the appointment and the answer will be specific to where you live.

What this does and does not tell you

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Only a clinician can examine you, take your history and run tests. The same symptom has different causes in different people.

If something is sudden, severe, or getting worse quickly, get medical advice rather than reading on.
