STIs & sexual health

How often should i get tested for stis?

  • Short answer
  • Reading level 20-22
  • There is no single schedule that fits everyone. It depends on what you have been exposed to, and on the infections you have had contact with. The pragmatic rule is: after a new partner without a condom, and routinely if you have multiple partners or a partner who does. Testing is routine and not a confession.

What this does and does not tell you

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Only a clinician can examine you, take your history and run tests. The same symptom has different causes in different people.

If something is sudden, severe, or getting worse quickly, get medical advice rather than reading on.
