STIs & sexual health
Is there such a thing as safe sex?
Not completely. Condoms greatly reduce the risk of pregnancy and of most STIs, but they do not eliminate either. They can also fail, and skin-to-skin contact still spreads some infections. Reducing risk well is the realistic goal rather than achieving zero risk.
What this does and does not tell you
This is general information, not a diagnosis. Only a clinician can examine you, take your history and run tests. The same symptom has different causes in different people.
If something is sudden, severe, or getting worse quickly, get medical advice rather than reading on.
