Sleep & energy

How long do i need to sleep?

  • Short answer
  • Reading level 13-15
  • Teenagers generally need 8 to 10 hours. Puberty shifts the body clock later by about an hour or two, so feeling wide awake at midnight is biological rather than a character flaw. The problem is usually the wake-up time, not the bedtime.

What this does and does not tell you

This is general information, not a diagnosis. Only a clinician can examine you, take your history and run tests. The same symptom has different causes in different people.

If something is sudden, severe, or getting worse quickly, get medical advice rather than reading on.
